Fire in San Diego Update October 25, 2007

Well as most of you out there have probably heard San Diego is on fire. Heather and I were not affected too much as the fires stayed 10 - 15 miles away from us. The Carlsbad area where we live was under a voluntary evacuation due to air quality. I packed up a few things that we needed just in case.

I found a nice website from KPBS linked to google maps that shows information on the fires here in SD. I don't know how update to date the information is but it gives an overview of what's going on. SD fire info

Currently Heather is in Hawaii for work and will be back on Saturday. Walgreens is opening a new store out there and she is there to help train the staff. For those of you who haven't heard, I am currently working for the Human Biomolecular Research Institute in San Diego. I have been here for almost a year. We are a small non-profit institute that focuses on the CNS. I get to work on a lot of interesting projects and I am able to keep expanding my synthesis base as each project is diffent from the next.

That's all the news here for now. I will try to keep up more but no promises.

A new milestone June 23, 2006

Hello to the few that may happen upon this site. It's been a while since the last update. As you can see we lead very exciting lives here.:) A lot is starting to happen for us these days. More on that in the coming weeks and months.

I would like to tell everyone that we are celebrating a couple of milestones here. Heather turned 30 and Peter turned 26 yesterday. Heather's family is out here to celebrate with us.

If you see or talk to them remember to wish them a happy birthday.

Happy New Year to everyone. I hope all went well for everyone. The Okiegochie clan is doing well this new year.

I have updated the pictures site with some new pictures for everyone check it out when you can. Not much is planned for us this year, we will keep everyone up to date more consistantly this year.

Have a great year everyone!!!

Updates October 23, 2005

I am slowly putting some pictures on the website. Today I added some shots of our new Murano. It really is a fun car to drive. It handles and rides great and gets decent gas milage for an SUV type vehicle. Check the pictures out.

As far as the pictures pages, I am still working on the layout and will probably modify them heavily from what Adobe Photoshop Album uses. Give me some more time with that.

Heather and I are off to Vegas next week, we will update you in a couple of weeks with that trip. I will try to take some pictures of our adventures.

News and Updates October 16, 2005

Well it's been nearly a month since we updated anything. A couple of new items to talk about. Heather has taken a job with Walgreen's and will start around November 1. With her taking the job, we purchased her a new car, a 2005 Nissan Murano. It was a vehicle that we have had our eye on for a while. We recieved a good deal on it and traded in the Honda. We bought the Murano last weekend. Heather really likes it and it's fun to drive.

As you can see from the updated link on the title bar I have finally started to post some pictures. I am using Adobe Photoshop Album to create the webpage for the pictures. It's the lazy man's way to make it, but I will be able to get some pictures up for all to see. I am working on the index page and will probably have to modify the pages created by Adobe, but for now check out some of the pics. I will have some pictures of the new car up also.

Heather's parents will be in Champaign next week also. Currently, they are in Nebraska visiting friends and family. We are excited for their arrival.

Lazy September 18, 2005

As most of all of you out there have noticed, the pictures link on our little slice of the web still is nonfunctional. I have heard from some of you out there would like to see some pictures of our adventures. I have taken note and will try to put a conscious effort to fixing that. I have thousands of digital images that I have taken over the past 4 years. I will look to finding some interesting pictures with some text on the pictures page. I will look in my HTML books for a nice way to showcase those pictures.

Birthdays August 28, 2005

The past few weeks have been fun. My mom's birthday was on the 9th and mine was on the 16th. Heather and I took a weekend trip to Omaha to visit everyone. Our friends Shana and Carlos' baby is due soon and we were able to see the work done on the nursery. They did an excellent job and their baby will love it, well as much as a baby can.

It is finally cooling down a little here in Champaign. Our garden is now producing, which means a lot of tomatoes and peppers. I have been making salsa, but we will probably try to make tomatoe sauce and freeze some. The tomatilla are producing very nicely, I expect around 50-60 total. I will use those to make salsa verde. I also got a few onions and may have some potatoes hidden under the ground. As for our squash and pumpkin those things did not make it. I was very shocked at the poor performance of them. I guess I will have to buy a pumpking this year if I want to make pumpkin puree for pumpking pie.

Allerton Park August 7, 2005

Hey all, not too much going on lately. Heather and I went to Allerton park on Saturday. Everyone we know has said that it is worth going. We spent about 4 hours walking around the park. It is a very interesting park. There are several hiking trail to experience in a vast wooded area. The person that owned the land seemed very excentric since the park is littered with very interesting sculptures and statues. I took some nice pictures of the statues we encountered on our hike. I will post them for viewing. If you are in the area, I would highly recommend taking a few hours to hike around the beautiful area that Allerton Park provides.

We spend today, Sunday, doing our weekly, well more like biweekly, yard work. It's very hot and humid here and for some reason our yard has decided to start growing like it did at the beginning of the season again. The work is worth it because our yard looks really good after. The garden is growing nicely and we will be inandated with tomatoes and tomatillos soon. We will make good use of all of the vegetables, tomato sauces, salsas, etc. It seems we may have a good crop of potatoes and hopefully a few pumpkins that I can use to make puree with. We will take more pics of the garden to update.

Chicago There We Were July 18, 2005

Well everyone, Heather and I were in Chicago over this past weekend. We meet our friends and spent an enjoyable time there. We stayed at our favorite hotel, the Hyatt in Shaumburg. I found a great deal the Hyatt runs year round, $110 per night plus a $50 gift certificate to the Woodfield Mall. We stayed there two nights and spent Saturday shopping at the mall and Sunday we took our friends to downtown Chicago, lunch was at Gino's East, some of the best pizza in Chicago. We spent the day walking all around downtown, to the shops and we ended up at Navy Pier. That was the first time we had been there, not too exciting, it's pretty much a tourist trap. We wanted to go to the Shed Aquarium, but time did not permit. We then said our goodbyes and headed home.

Chicago was very nice, a little hot, but not too bad. We were lucky that it did not rain up there. We got home, to Champaign, to hot humid and sticky weather. It rained most of the day here today. Good for the garden. We found out that what we thought were eggplants were actually tomatillos. We also got our first purple bell pepper. I have never had a purple bell pepper, I will tell you how it tastes.

Here is a quote from the Gochenours about their camping trip.

This is the group picture from the Dorst group campsite D in Sequoia National Park. We camped 5 nights from June 30 to July 5. We went on several hikes, saw at least one brown bear, saw several deer and ate a lot. We dined at the lodge on July 3. It was a great trip. The campsite was great. Next year maybe we will stay in cabins, age is creeping up on some of us. But its fun to sit around the campsite.
The trip sounded like fun, next time you see the Gochenours ask them for more details.

Good News July 9, 2005

Everyone let's congratulate Peter with his new job at PayPal in Omaha, NE. He will be starting on Monday July 18. Good luck Pete!!

Update July 7, 2005

The site has been updated to include a section for Karl and Heather now, so check them out. More to come from the other Okie's and Gochie's soon.

On the Gochenour front, Mom and Dad G got back from a camping trip over the fourth. More details and maybe some pictures soon.

We are LIVE! July 5, 2005

Well we finally went live. Okiegochie.net is live and raring to go. I had some trouble with formatting issues, but I worked them out. Tell me what you think of the colors, formatting, etc. As I am still learning, any help would be appreciated.

For now no new news on at the okiegochie clan but check back often. The links will become active and Heather will have a place to see what she has going on. This page is for an overview of the whole clan and individual's pages will follow.

I noticed that I am having rendering issues with MSIE (microsoft internet explorer), text just disappears and reappears if you run your mouse cursor over the link in the first blog. In addition to that, IE is not rendering the margins of one of my divisions correctly. I am looking into how to resolve the issue, so if you use MSIE as your browser, it appears that if the text-size is set to normal and you maybe able to see all text.

Heather and I were at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago two weeks ago. We had a really good time there and I took lots and lots of pictures. I will try to wade through the hundreds of pictures and pick out some good ones to post. Check back soon.

Here is our new website :) July 3, 2005

Welcome to the new website of the Okiegochie clan. We will be posting events, travels, etc of the Okiegochie clan to keep the friends and family updated.
