Description
Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire has you playing the role of a cocky pilot named Dash Rendar (whose best friend is Han Solo) as you fight alongside the Rebels during the attack on Hoth. From that point on, you're on your own, experiencing different styles of gameplay across nine more levels set within the Star Wars universe. The first level involves piloting a Snowspeeder as AT-ATs, AT-STs, and Probe Droids scour the frigid planet looking to crush the Rebel Alliance. The goal in this level is to take out the opposition in four separate waves. Once you've accomplished this, the game switches to a third-person shooter mode, as you guide Dash through the icy caverns inside Echo Base to find the Outrider (his ship). Yet before you can escape, you'll have to blast Snowtroopers, Wampas and one AT-ST boss! You'll then climb aboard your ship to leave Hoth, but don't expect things to quiet down. The next phase of the game (Asteroid Chase) involves shooting down TIE Fighters from a default view of inside the cockpit -- all while trying to avoid asteroids. Eliminate 60 TIE Fighters and 20 TIE Bombers to advance to the next stage, the junkyard in Ord Mantell, to question the notorious IG-88 on the whereabouts of Boba Fett. This level has your character running atop a moving train as you jump or duck to avoid getting hit by barriers. Survive the encounter with IG-88 and you're once again on foot, trying to find Boba Fett in the desert-like Gall Spaceport. As you make your way through the twisting canyons and narrow ledges, you'll need to look for the hidden jetpack so you can take on the deadly bounty hunter through the air! Subsequent levels have you riding a Swoop Bike through the streets of Mos Eisley and Beggar's Canyon while fending off rival bikers; climbing aboard the Imperial Freighter Suprosa to obtain secret plans for the new Death Star; trudging through the foul sewers below the Imperial City and then infiltrating Prince Xizor's palace; and blasting off into space to destroy Xizor's Skyhook Station. Once players have completed each level, they are free to go back to search for hidden Challenge Points on all three difficulty levels: Easy, Medium and Jedi. Collect all of them on each level to uncover different surprises!
